THE STORY OF KULIS AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE AND ITS HISTORIC HANGER

For more than 50 years , the Kulis Air National Guard Base at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport played a critical role in the defence of Alaska and the United States during the Cold War. Additionaly, the base provided needed response and relief during state emergencies. The base was the first permanent home of the Alaska Air National Guard (ANG) 144th Fighter Squadron, which originated in September 1952 as the 8144th Air Base Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base.
